EP Review

We received this generous review of our new EP from
Tony Bates of 100.7 Highlands FM:

"The Curious Few's debut album has all the elements of great musicianship, with the sound being well outside of that for a trio.

For those people who recall the days of Space Rock and HAWKWIND, take a close listen to the opening track, You're Losing and be pleasantly surprised to see that the genre is back in good and capable hands. Highway Nine shows a musical maturity that belies the age of this band and the opening bars of Say You Won't, whilst being reminiscent of The Stones, shows that this Trio know how to rock.

This is not a retro band, but if you like your metal slightly harder than aluminium, this is for you."

RECORDING DIARY

Day 1:
We load in to David Bridie's Enormadome Studio.
Cazz falls over and lands in a cactus in the garden causing one whole leg of her jeans to be covered in prickles. She then gets prickles in her hand as she tries to wipe them off. Luckily she had a change of jeans in the car. We set up and record all the instrument tracks live for six whole songs with only a few takes per song. It's now that the hours of preparation pays off! After Tim does a basic mix of the tracks we still have time to run a few little overdub bits, like the massive feedback at the start of You're Losing etc, and also lay down three vocal tracks for "Say You Won't". A late night as we head off to get some tucker and pillows for the night.

Day 2:
Back to the Studio.
First of all we lay down the rest of Cazz's vocals and Tim completes a bit more mixing and cleaning up of the tracks. Off to lunch, Cazz moves Robbie's car and drops one of the front wheels into a huge hole next to the kerb knocking the frontend out of alignment. Next Marty gets to lay down his vocals. Then we sit around tweaking and discussing and tweaking and discussing for hours until we all go crazy. Tim does the final bouncedown and we walk out with our CD to listen to!

Day 3:
After a couple of weeks of listening to our CD and assessing, we decide we'd like a few mix changes. As Tim is booked out we decide to go to Adam at Toyland.
On the way down we stop at Maccas at Calder Rwy and get some coffee... they fill it too full and when Cazz opens hers to put the sugar in it spills out all over her hand and legs so it not only burns but also looks like she wet herself. Six hours in Toyland studio working on the mixes and we come out with 6 tracks and 3 smiling faces.

Day 4:
After a couple more weeks we decide it could benefit from some mastering. Following a bit of research and advice we decide to take it to Dex. Luckily we didn't need to got into the studio for this, so Cazz didn't have a chance to have a clumsy accident on the way. We get the CD Master in the mail woohoo and it sounds very punchy indeed.

Then Cazz just had to get the artwork done for the disks, digipack and new website, get them printed and here we are.... a disk ready for release!!!
