THE CURIOUS FEW - BIOGRAPHYFounded by Cazz in 2004, The Curious Few have matured with an edgy confidence, playing to appreciative audiences in the usual Melbourne haunts and a tour of regional Victoria, and have received airplay on Melbourne stations 3RRR, 3PBS and 3CR. Playing originals in a style that while is best described as "rock", flirts with elements of blues, garage and pop. Their influences are many and wide-ranging; from Divinyls, Died Pretty and Eastern Dark; to Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin; to The Stooges, Beasts of Bourbon and The Scientists. Cazz's vituosity on the guitar drives the band with a sonic variation of warm clean tones, solid blues crunch, thick dirty fuzz and wailing wahwah. Her passionate vocals, sometimes aggressive sometimes sweet and lyrical, intertwine with the raunchy lead guitar, adding to what is an emotional rollercoaster ride. Marty's thundering bass locks in with Robbie's drums, laying a foundation that is as solid as it is dynamic. His use of overdrive with the bass thickens the aural soup, that when offset with Cazz's wailing lead accentuate the passion and power in the material. Robbie's rich history of live gigs in bands of eclectic styles has developed her versatility on the kit, which shows in the stylistic variation of the material, providing solid and dynamic rhythms from blistering rock beats, to soulful grooves, to bouncy pop, to anthemic rock fills. The Curious Few present a wealth of material that any fan of raw guitar driven rock will no doubt enjoy. MEMBER PROFILESCazz - songwriter, lead guitar, vocals
The Curious Few is the brainchild of Cazz, whose lifelong dream is to play lead guitar in a rock band. Finding relative disappointment in the search for the right band to play with, she decided to start her own and wrote a setlist of songs to get things started. Cazz has been playing guitar since she was a child and has branched out to singing and songwriting in the last few years. She plays her beloved Fender Stratocaster through a Fender Deville amp, and usually drags out the Electroharmonix USA Big Muff Pi, an Aphek Peanut Butter, Boss Analog Chorus, Vintage Ibanez Phase Tone and Snarling Dogs Whine-O-Wah. Throughout her playing history Cazz has experimented with a number of styles, but keeps on coming back to chunky rock and blues for their opportunities for expression. Her love of solid driving rhythms permeates her songs making them as catchy as they are emotionally arresting. In her spare time Cazz enjoys many hobbies including off road mountain biking, working out at the gym and driving her ute. Oh and she loves cats... Following a short but illustrious career as lead singer and second guitarist for high-energy rock/punk band ItchyWahWah, Marty spent the next few months buying Cazz drinks until she couldn't imagine what The 'Few would be like without him. Marty has been playing guitar and bass for about 5 years, and has been a lover of raw rock and punk for longer than he cares to remember. He recently decided he had to get in a band and fast... before his daughter beat him to it. Bringing loads of pure bass grunt to The Curious Few's lineup, Marty’s arsenal currently consists of a Gibson Thunderbird, a Labsystems head and vintage Sunn 18" horn loaded cab, and various overdrive pedals. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his kids, watching the simpsons, seeing live bands and enjoying a few chilled bevvies. As you can see in the photo, Robbie had an early exposure to swing. However she very quickly grew out of this and hocked everything to get her first drumkit, much to the disdain of the three siblings she shared a room with at the time. Since then, Robbie's musical journey has been full of many memorable experiences - receiving an ARIA nomination, appearing on Countdown and MTV, and playing a JJJ Live at the Wire with band Sea Stories; and winning the National Battle of the Bands with band Sweet Jayne - and some less memorable experiences - including an industrial accident that resulted in permanent impairment to both wrists and threatened her ability to ever play drums again. However with grit and determination, and by re-adjusting her playing technique, Robbie was able to find a way to play again... much to the delight of The Curious Few, who are stoked to have such a talented and experienced drummer onboard. Bringing an energetic dynamic to the material, Robbie takes great pride in her vintage 80s Tama Superstar natural wood-grain birch kit with a vast array of Paiste 2002 cymbals, and a beautiful pearl free floating brass snare drum. In her spare time Robbie enjoys researching and collecting vintage drum equipment - especially snare drums - caring for her numerous pets and tinkering in her extensive garden.
